General Motors could be about to shed its controlling interest in Opel for nothing, as long as any new investor promises to put money into a new company formed from its European operations, according to reports.

GM is talking to 6 financial and industrial groups about taking a stake, each paying 500 million euros to GM for a share. But that money will be injected directly back into Opel. Saab may also go for free.
