Barack Obama has headed to Mexico, kicking off the first part of an official tour to Latin America.

Top of the agenda is the war on drugs; the US President is expected to back Mexico’s fight against the country’s criminal cartels. As well as showing solidarity on drug trafficking, border security, immigration and the economy will make up a key part of Obama’s discussions with Mexican counterpart Felipe Calderon. Security in Mexico City is tight and White House officials have played up the symbolism of the trip, the first visit by a US president to the capital since that of Bill Clinton.
