At least 18 people were killed and 20 injured in a fire at a hostel for the homeless in Poland. Many victims are believed to have suffered injuries after jumping from the windows of the three-storey building.
The blaze broke out during the night in the town of Kamien Pomorski close to the Baltic sea in the north west of the country. One firefighter said: ‘‘20 people have been taken to the hospital with broken bones and other injuries after escaping the blaze, some have also received counselling’‘ In total, the refuge is thought to have housed around 80 people. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has been to the scene to survey the damage.
