At least five Lebanese soldiers have been killed and another was seriously injured after their patrol came under attack in the east of the country.
It happened in the Hezbollah stronghold of the Bekaa Valley. Witnesses say four men ambushed the troops’ patrol firing a rocket propelled grenade. While the motive remains unclear the area is on a major drug route. With the army cracking down on crime in recent months it is thought the attack could have been carried out by tribal groups seeking revenge.
