Emergency services say a Palestinian armed with an axe has killed one Israeli boy and seriously injured another. The attack happened at a Jewish settlement near Hebron in the West Bank, two days after Israel’s new right-wing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was sworn in.

The dead child was 13. A younger boy, thought to be aged seven, was wounded. Some reports say he may be the son of a man imprisoned for an attempted attack against a Palestinian school. A settler claimed to have struggled with the axeman and disarmed him. But the man, reported to be a local Palestinian employee, fled – possibly after being shot by security forces.
