Islamic rebels are being blamed for an attack in eastern Algeria that’s left two people dead.
A suicide bomber killed himself and two others at the gate of a government security post in the town of Tadmait. Authorities say the bomber tried to storm the post, about 70 kilometres east of the capital Algiers, but he was seen by a guard who shot him. Since last month, Islamic rebels have stepped up attacks in Algeria killing more than 33 people ahead of presidential elections in April. It follows a pattern of violence before similar political events with the aim of embarrassing the authorities.
