Carnival fever returned to Rio de Janeiro for a while, as the six leading samba schools in the parades marched again to show off their routines once more.
They returned to the home of Brazilian samba – Rio’s Sambadrome stadium – to bring back the routines that had ranked them in the top six during the fiercely fought competitions earlier in the week. One dancer said: “I am so happy. It doesn’t matter whether my school finished first or last.” Another added: “We are over the moon. First because all the champion schools are together, and also this parade is more relaxed with less responsibility. But we are still conscious of how hard we fought to be here today.” The Rio carnival officially finished on Wednesday, but several large parties have continued through the weekend.
