European gas crisis observers in Ukraine

European gas crisis observers in Ukraine
Text size Aa Aa

A team of European observers has arrived in Ukraine to assure the flow of Russian gas which has been cut off for days over a pricing row.

The monitors will check that gas pumped by Moscow across Ukraine is not being siphoned off by Kiev, as Russia claims. The monitors will also assess whether conditions have been met by both sides in order for deliveries to resume to several European countries. The nine-day crisis has left hundreds of thousands of people in the Balkans without gas, forced factories to shut down and disrupted deliveries as far west as France and Germany.
