Israel has warned its military operation is not over in Gaza. The Defence Minister Ehud Barack said it would continue until militant rocket attacks ceased. And Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the country was prepared for the backlash.
“The operation in Gaza intends primarily to change the situation in the South part of our country. It may take some time, and all of us are prepared to carry the burden and the pains that are an inseparable part of this situation,” Olmert said. A spokesman for Hamas warned the group will “unleash hell” in response to the strikes. In the immediate aftermath, militants fired at least 40 rockets at Israel. One hit a house in the town of Netivot. One man was killed in the attack.
