Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has held emergency talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman. According to a palace statement, both leaders called for an end to the air strikes and urged the international community to put pressure on Israel.

Earlier, Abbas said he was in “urgent contact” with several other states over the deadly blitz. “We are very much interested in stopping the aggression and restoring calm,” he said. Diplomats have said the Arab League will hold an extraordinary summit in Doha in the New Year to discuss the latest violence.
