The European Union Council says China has postponed its upcoming economic summit with the EU, due to be held in Lyon on December the first.

The eleventh EU/China summit would have been a timely opportunity to pursue on an international level the European Commission’s call for a co-ordinated response to the world economic crisis. But it has been derailed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s meeting with Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama scheduled for five days afterwards. December will also see the Dalai Lama visiting several EU member states and insititutions, and meeting several heads of state.
