This weekend has seen massive anti-racism rallies in Italy following a number of attacks on immigrants.
Six Africans, apparently gunned down by the mafia. A Chinese man set upon by a group of adolescents. Two days ago.
Immigrants were determined to make their voices – and experiences – heard.
In Caserte, near Naples, 5000 people were on the streets protesting against racism and the mafia.
The government is well aware of the problems there. Extra police have already been sent in but soldiers doubled their number this weekend.
It was in Casserte that gunmen – believed to be from the Camorra mafia – opened fire with machine guns killing seven people, including the six Africans whose deaths have dominated the national news.
The soldiers will stay on the streets until at least the end of the year.
