A group of hostages seized in Egypt more than a week ago have been freed according to local reports and the Italian Foreign Office.

State television says the 11 Western tourists, five Italians, five Germans and a Romanian along with their Egyptian guides are in good health.

It is understood they are now on their way back to capital, Cairo but further details of their release haven’t been made clear yet.

The 19 hostages were kidnapped in a remote border area of Egypt.

The kidnappers had demanded that Germany pay a 7-million euro ransom.

It remains unclear, however, whether any money was handed over.
