Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has signed a deal with opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai over talks on forming a power-sharing government. The accord, brokered by South Africa’s President Thabo Mbeki, follows the first meeting in ten years between the two rival leaders.

Officials from both sides say the framework agreement sets a two-week deadline for the government and two factions of the opposition MDC to discuss key issues including a unity government and how to hold new elections.

It comes after weeks of deadlock since Mugabe was re-elected in June in a widely condemned poll boycotted by Tsvangirai because of violence against his supporters.
