British police have arrested a man in connection with the knife murder of two French students in London. The 21-year-old was arrested early on Saturday in a street in southeast London as part of an investigation into the killing of Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez.

The 23-year-olds were tied up, repeatedly stabbed and left in a blazing flat. Bonomo had been stabbed nearly 200 times, while his friend received nearly 50 knife wounds. Investigators expressed their shock at the brutality of the crime.

They have said a laptop computer was taken in a burglary a week before the murders, while two games consoles were stolen last Sunday at the time of the murders. Detectives had said they were investigating whether there was a link between the first theft and the murders.
