EU aims to reduce workplace accidents

Each year in the European Union, 167,000 people die as a result of work-related accidents or illnesses. It is not just lives that are lost in unsafe workplaces. The financial cost is also very high, for employers and employees alike. The annual number of occupational accidents in the EU is estimated at 7 million. The European Commission’s aim is to reduce the number by 25% by 2012.
