A former Bosnian Muslim commander in Srebrenica has had his conviction for war crimes overturned by the UN tribunal in the Hague.

Naser Oric was found guilty two years ago of failing to prevent the murder and torture of Serb captives in 1992 and 1993.

Once a bodyguard to the former Serbian strongman Slobodan Milosevic, Oric denied the charges against him but was sentenced to two years in jail.

Today, however, appeals judges ruled that the original hearing had not proved Oric had control over those behind the crimes, which occurred before the notorious massacre of Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995.
