Around 60 people are believed dead after an express train packed with holidaymakers derailed in Pakistan. Authorities put the number of injured at 120 but work is continuing to try to find survivors in the mangled wreckage. Rescue teams are using cutting equipment to try to free those still trapped in two badly damaged carriages.

The Karachi Express night train was on its way from Lahore when it derailed near the town of Mehrabpur – 12 of its 16 carriages came off, ramming into each other as they did so.

Most of those on board were on their way home for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha. The disaster is being blamed on a faulty track.
