Officials in Pakistan are ruling out sabotage as the cause of a train crash that has killed at least 60 people. Almost all the carriages of the Karachi Express train, packed with holidaymakers, derailed.
More than 120 people are reported to have been injured and it is feared the toll could rise even further. The train was on its way from Lahore to Karachi when it crashed near the town of Mehrabpur.
Railways officials say they believe a faulty track was responsible for the derailment. “I was sleeping on the train, then I heard it coming of the tracks and then there was a blackout,” said one man. “I saw lots of people injured.”
Victims report that it took a long time before help arrived. Many of those on board were heading home for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.
