French president Nicolas Sarkozy has arrived in Morocco, ahead of a three-day state visit. Some two million euros worth of business deals have already been signed but Sarkozy has declared that Morocco and France are more than partners, they’re friends. A delegation of some 70 business leaders has accompanied him to the north African former French colony.
France remains Morocco’s top trading partner. Sarkozy will come under close scrutiny; this is his first state visit since his divorce from Cecilia was made public last week. Contracts signed include an agreement to build a high-speed TGV train line from Tangiers to Casablanca, bringing the travel time between the two cities down from four hours to an hour and a half.
But once again Paris has failed to shift its fighter plane, the Rafale. The Moroccans have chosen Lockheed Martin’s F16 instead.
