Kosovo guerrilla group says ready to fight Serbia

Kosovo public television has broadcast footage of masked and armed members of a self-proclaimed guerrilla army.

The men say they are ready to fight for Kosovo’s independence from Serbia. The ethnic Albanian majority in the UN-administered province is getting increasingly frustrated with attemps to gain independence in the face of Serb and Russia opposition.

“Following serious threats of war by Serb paramilitaries and the fact that Serbia will once again invade Kosovo we are forced to be ready and aware,” said this member of Albanian National Army.

The ANA was marked as a terrorist group by the United Nations mission that has governed Kosovo for eight years.

NATO spokesman Colonel Bertrand Bonneau said there was no place for any more violence in Kosovo.

The ANA surfaced after the war in Kosovo. Its size and potential threat has never been determined and some diplomats have dismissed it as what they described as an “internet army”.
