The world’s largest passenger jet has been turning heads at Asia’s biggest airshow. Airbus’ A380 was the guest of honour at the Hong Kong Airshow, flying across the city’s famous Victoria Harbour and dipping between the island’s skyscrapers. Airbus has made no secret of the importance of the Chinese market for its superjumbo.
It is hoping to sell 150 aircraft, including A380’s, to Chinese airlines over the next few years, starting at this exhibition. Aircraft numbers have been rising fast in China, serving the booming economy and millions of newly affluent people who no longer want to take the train. However, last week Beijing warned its aviation industry was growing unsustainably fast.
