Waving Chinese flags, residents of Milan’s Chinatown district took to the streets in violent protests against police. The Chinese born community were angered by what they called discrimination by traffic officers handing out parking tickets.

As tempers rose, riot police pushed back the crowd, hitting many with truncheons and residents responded by throwing water bottles and small rubbish bins.

One group of plain clothes riot police were seen restraining a man with truncheons over the bonnet of a car.

Several people, including some with head injuries were taken to hospital and a number of arrests were made.
