Oscar winning actor, Robert De Niro is hoping to win a few accolades for his work behind the camera with his directing of the film “The Good Shepherd”.

Always a popular figure, De Niro’s CIA saga was well received at its international premiere at Berlin’s film festival.

The movie teams up the German actress Martina Gideck along side Angelina Jolie and traces the origins of the intelligence agency through the eyes of a fictionalised agent played by Matt Damon.

During a press interview De Niro dismissed acustions that the film was an attack on the organisation:
“ I don’t want to criticise, I just put the things down in a straightforward, direct and honest way. I leave it up to others to make their own judgements.”

The film though depicts a menacing CIA with its covert activities and its infamous powers. Some film critics say it confirms stereotypical impressions of the CIA held in many countries outside the US.

“The Good Shepherd” is among 22 films competing for the top Golden Bear award at the Berlin festival.
