Police in eastern England have arrested a man over the murder of five prostitutes. The suspect is reported to be Tom Stephens, a 37-year-old supermarket worker from the village of Trimley St Martin near the port town of Felixstowe. Pictures of him were available on his own website. Stephens gave lengthy interviews to British media at the weekend and admitted he knew all five women and had no alibis. However he strenously denied any involvement in their deaths. One of his friends, a prostitute named Lou, says he feared being arrested:
“He was , I’d say a bit on edge, a bit worried, because the day before he got pulled over with one of my friends in the car, and got taken down the police station and strip-searched and everything. They took his car so he was a bit paranoid that the same thing would happen.” The victims aged from 19 to 29 were all found, dead and naked in rural settings near Ipswich. They worked as prostitutes and all were drug-users.
