An emergency operation has continued through the night at the scene of a train crash in France which claimed the lives of at least five people. Authorities still are not sure exactly how many people were on board the two trains that collided head-on in Zoufftgen, in the north east of the country. One was a passenger train travelling from Luxembourg, the other was a goods train.
Five people were injured in the accident but officials said they did not expect to find any more survivors in the debris. The trains were travelling on the same stretch of track because of maintenance work on an adjoining line. The two drivers are among the dead. The tragedy has shocked a nation which takes pride in its modern rail network.
