The International War Crimes tribunal in the Hague has cleared a senior Bosnian Serb politician of genocide. Momcilo Krajisnik was convicted of other charges including murder. He was sentenced to 27 years for the murder, extermination, deportation persecution and forced transfer of non-Serb civilians, but the court found the intentions of the 61-year-old did not amount to genocide.
Kraijisnik was a right-hand man to Bosnian Serb wartime leader, Radovan Karadzic. Along with Biljana Plavsic, he headed the parliament of the breakaway Bosnian Serb Republic during the conflict which lasted from 1992 to 1995. Plavsic was jailed for 11 years in 2007. Karadzic remains on the run.
