An incident during an appeal by the British Interior Minister for Muslims to do more to combat extremism has highlighted the government’s poor standing with some in the Islamic community. John Reid’s speech in east London was interrupted by a protetor. The heckler was eventually removed. He condemned the government’s anti-terrorism policies which he said targeted innocent Muslims.

Prime Minister Tony Blair has repeatedly claimed the security services need the help of Muslims in the country to defeat terrorism.
