A five-year-old video tape has come to light, apparently showing Osama Bin Laden meeting what are said to be some of the September 11 attackers. The images have been broadcast on the Arabic TV station Al Jazeera, just days ahead of the fifth anniversary of the atrocities.
One of the men identified by the channel is in US custody. In the run-up to elections in November, President Bush yesterday vowed to continue his so-called war on terror. He said: “Many Americans look at these events and ask the same question: Five years after 9/11, are we safer? The answer is, yes, America is safer.” Meanwhile, the US Senate has unanimously passed a bill to reinstate a special CIA unit to hunt for Ben Laden, at a cost of around 170 million euros.
