In the Iraqi capital Baghdad, two people were killed in a car bomb attack against an Iraqi newspaper early this morning. Just hours later, a car bomb in the town centre killed at least five people and wounded ten. The target was not clear but the blast occurred near a hotel complex and a police checkpoint.
In other violence, four police officers were killed when their vehicle came under attack by armed men near the northern city of Kirkuk. The Baghdad attack against state-run al-Sabah newspaper was the second this year. The building was severely damaged and more than 20 cars were reportedly destroyed. Insurgents fighting to bring down the Shi’ite-led government often target journalists working for state media.
