A bomb at a busy market in Moscow has killed several people including at least two children and wounded dozens more. Russian prosecutors said it was most likely linked to organised crime, although terrorism has not been ruled out. The bomb may also have caused a nearby gas canister to explode, which led to earlier reports that there had been a gas leak.
Moscow’s chief prosecutor said the blast was caused by a homemade bomb equivalent to up to 1.2 kilogrammes of TNT explosive. Most of the traders at the sprawling Cherkizovo market were from China or former Soviet Republics in central Asia. Russian criminal gangs sometimes use small explosive devices in their battle for control of markets in the capital.
