There is confirmation of another trial against Saddam Hussein. Prosecutors in Baghdad say the former Iraqi leader and some of his ex army commanders will go on trial on August 21. This on charges of killing tens of thousands of Kurds in 1988 in a military operation to force them from their villages. This became known as the Anfal campaign.
The charges are on top of those currently being heard in relation to the killing of Shi’ite civilians in the village of Dujail. Prosecutors say the new trial will proceed in tandem with the Dujail case if there is no verdict before August. A third trial is expected over the killings of Kurds in the town of Halabja.
