The stage is being set for a top level Palestinian-Israeli summit. The plans were revealed as Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Israeli ministers at the World Economic Forum in Egypt.
The internal strife and worsening humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territories have overshadowed the global gathering. However in a speech Abbas played down the possibility of civil war.
“It is really Israeli government policy not to punish the Palestinian people for their vote (for Hamas) and to help the Palestinian people in any humanitarian way,” said Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
Livni also revealed the groundwork is being laid for a meeting between Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
