A two-year-old girl killed by a racist skinhead in Belgium has been buried.
Luna Drowart, who was shot with her Malian nanny, was laid to rest at St Paul’s church in Antwerp, just a hundred metres away from the events that shook the northern city last week.
Several hundred people attended the ceremony, which included readings by Luna’s two older brothers and the singing of a song written by a family friend.
Alluding to the killer’s far right background, the toddler’s grandmother denounced what she called “the ideology that makes such acts possible.”
The murderer was an 18-year-old school pupil, Hans Van Themsche. He also injured a Turkish woman. He admitted wanting to kill as many foreigners as possible, and was only stopped when a policeman shot and injured him in the stomach.
The ultranationalist Vlaams Belang party has rejected claims it is indirectly responsible.
