An American man who was among four Christian activists kidnapped in Iraq last year has been killed. Tom Fox’s body was found in Baghdad on Thursday. No further details have been given although additional forensic tests are due to be carried out in the US. Along with a Briton and two Canadians, the 54-year-old was snatched by a group calling itself Swords of Truth.
The four were working for Christian Peacemaker Teams. Spokeswoman Sara Reschly said: “We mourn the loss of Tom Fox, who combined a lightness of spirit, a firm opposition to all oppression and the recognition of God in everyone. We renew our plea for the safe release of Harmeet Sooden, James Loney and Norman Kember.” Earlier this week those remaining three hostages were shown in a video on Arabtelevision. They all appeared to be in good health. The men called on Gulf Arab leaders and their own governments to help free them.
