Gary Glitter, the glam rock star of the 1970s, has been found guilty and sentenced in Vietnam to three years for sex offences. His accusers – two girls – were under age when they say they were victimised. The girls’ families looked on as the verdict was read out in court in the resort town of Vung Tau, south of Ho Chi Minh City.
The 61-year-old said he had been set up: “I’m innocent, it’s a conspiracy by you-know-who,” he shouted. Glitter had denied the charges against him, insisting he was teaching the two girls English. Under Vietnamese law, Glitter now has 15 days to appeal. The verdict is a long way from the chart-topping days when he was “Leader of the Gang”
