Bombings in Iran have reportedly killed six people and injured several others. The blasts hit a government building and a bank in Ahvaz, the capital of the troubled Khuzestan province, which has a large ethnic Arab population.
Nobody has claimed responsibility, but previous attacks in Ahvaz have been blamed on extremists who accuse the Iranian government of anti-Arab discrimination. Tehran alleges the militants are linked to foreign governments such as Britain, which has troops just across the border from Khuzestan in Iraq.
The explosions were apparently timed to coincide with a visit by president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The trip was cancelled, officially because of bad weather. However one media report claimed he had received a security tip-off.
