Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said there is no reason why his country should not have nuclear technology at a press conference in the capital Tehran. He said his country doesn’t want to suspend nuclear research any longer adding that the West should show Iran trust. German Chancellor Angela Merkel who is on her first visit to the White House has pledged along with US president George W Bush to seek a common approach on Iran.
On Friday, Merkel criticised Ahmadinejad’s recent anti-Semitic comments on Israel saying the West and particularly Germany must react. Tehran denies accusations it is seeking nuclear weapons and says it needs the technology to generate electricity. Western leaders are demanding Iran be referred to the United Nations Security Council if it carries out a threat to block inspections of its nuclear facilities.
