Iran has repeated its intention to continue developing its nuclear programme, at a time when European leaders are trying to see if talks on the issue can be resumed.

Officials from Britain, France and Germany are meeting Iranian officials at the French embassy in Vienna today, although diplomats say there is little chance of a breakthrough. The director of Iran’s nuclear agency says the guarantees it is offering the world over the peaceful nature of its nuclear programme go far beyond international norms. He says Europe knows it cannot deprive Iranians of the right to civilian nuclear technology.” Tehran denies claims it has secret plans to make nuclear bombs, insisting it only aims to generate more electricity. Germany, France and Britain broke off talks with Iran in August when it resumed uranium ore processing.
