US army reservist, Lynndie England, has been found guilty of abusing prisoners at Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison.

The 22-year-old is awaiting sentence and could face a prison term of up to ten years. The military court prosecutor claimed that England had humiliated prisoners because she enjoyed it and had a sick sense of humour.Her defense lawyers refuted this saying she participated in the abuse because she has a maliable character and is easily led. Her case is one of a series of prosecutions of soldiers who have served at Abu Ghraib.Photos depicting US soldiers humiliating Iraqi prisoners caused international outrage when they were published world wide. The court found England guilty of maltreatment of prisoners but not guilty of conspiracy. Other higher ranking US officers have been repremanded for their part in the abuse at Abu Ghraib.
