If you are a hot air balloon fan, the place to be between now and next Sunday is northeast France. Chambley air base in Meurthe-et-Moselle is hosting the ninth edition of one of the world’s largest balloon events.
A record 261 balloons have gathered for the biennial occasion, second only to the international event in New Mexico in the US. The colourful bubbles set off in a line stretching three kilometres. But that was not all that was on offer for the spectators, who numbered some 10,000 on Sunday.
There are plenty of games on the ground, and twice a day there are group flights open to the public.
