In a bid to end some of the worst violence between Palestinians in years, the ruling Fatah party and the Hamas militant group have ordered their gunmen in the Gaza Strip to stop fighting each other.
The announcement was made by the two sides at a joint news conference. Trouble flared when Palestinian security forces were told to stop Hamas firing rockets at Israelis.
The clashes that followed left dozens of Palestinians injured and at least two dead.
Gun battles erupted on Tuesday after two Hamas offices and a vehicle were torched in attacks that the Islamist group and Fatah blamed on each other.
