Berlin’s gay and lesbian community has a well-deserved reputation for throwing a good party and they are living up to it again this year at the pride parade. Thousands have been bopping away in the city centre in what has become an omissible annual event for many. There is a serious undertone, however. Organisers say that while there has been progress on homosexual rights with the approval of the same-sex marriage law, much remains to be done to achieve social equality. The parade was dedicated to the fight for greater gay rights across Europe. In Paris, members of the community also filled the streets to demand they be allowed to marry and adopt children.
