Representatives of more than 80 countries and international organisations have gathered in Brussels for a conference on how to improve stability and advance reconstruction in Iraq.
Baghdad, for its part, is expected to call on leaders to deliver promised aid more quickly, while at the same time acknowledge it also has to crack down on corruption.
The conference, organised by the European Union and the US, comes at a time when relentless violence continues unabated in Iraq.
Commentators say the leaders taking part in the meeting are likely to back Baghdad’s request for more debt relief. However, the US Secretary of State, Condoleeza Rice, has said she is not expecting any deal on the issue in Brussels.
