Wenders welcomed back to Cannes

Cannes welcomed back a past winner and jury president to the red carpet on Thursday when Wim Wenders hit town to show off his latest film, which is in competition, the eighth of his films to be selected for the Palme d’Or top prize category. “Don’t come knocking” has, like “Paris, Texas”, his Palme winner 21 years ago, been written by Sam Shepherd, who also stars.

The cast is formidable; Mrs. Shepherd, or Jessica Lange, Eva Marie Saint, Tim Roth, and Sarah Polley give depth to this tale of personal crisis in the life of a washed-up actor. After missing out on Shepherd to star in “Paris Texas” Wenders was delighted to get his man this time, for an all-too-rare screen performance.
