Europe and the U.S. are still seeking to avoid collision over their Airbus and Boeing subsidy dispute.
Both sides have again stressed their readiness to give talks another try. Going through the World Trade Organisation could create serious turbulence for transatlantic relations. EU trade chief Peter Mandelson: “The EU remains ready to negotiate a balanced, phased agreement to reduce and eventually eliminate subsidies for large civil aircraft production. Taking cases to the WTO is in my view not the appropriate way.” The commissioner said the global market was big enough for both companies to prosper. He expects to take the matter up with his American counterpart Robert Portman soon.
