A week after he was returned to No. 10 Downing Street, British Prime Minister Tony Blair will hold his first meeting with his new-look cabinet. Ministers are likely to focus on next week’s Queen’s Speech, which will lay out Labour’s third-term plans. Former Home Secretary David Blunkett is back as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and Finance Minister Gordon Brown and Foreign Secretary Jack Straw keep their posts.
Yesterday, Blair told Labour MPs a fourth term was within their reach if the party stays united around a centre-left programme. He has said he will not contest the next election but it is not known when he will step down.
