London’s Trafalgar Square was the scene of a massive concert to mark the day the Second World War ended. Dame Vera Lynn, the former British force’s sweetheart made a guest appearance. Now in her late 80s she left it to the Welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins to sing her signature tune, “We’ll meet again”. A host of other artists sang at the free concert, including Cliff Richard and Will Young. There were also readings by Heather Mills McCartney and actor Richard E. Grant.
