A suicide bombing in Israel has killed at least four people and injured dozens of others. The attacker struck as Friday night revellers waited to get into a nightclub in a crowded, seafront district of Tel Aviv.

It was the first Palestinian bombing in Israel since three people were killed in an open-air market in Tel Aviv on November 1. Restaurant owner Yaki Sason was standing in a doorway when the party mood turned to terror. He described how he turned round to see the aftermath of the blast and heard people screaming: “Come to help me! Come to help me!” Responsibility for the bombing is unclear. A cell of the militant Palestinian group Islamic Jihad in the West Bank claimed the attack but the faction’s leadership in Gaza denied any knowledge. A claim in the name of the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades was also made but a member of its leadership said those heading the group had no information.
