The prime ministers of Sweden, Norway and Finland expressed their condolences to the King of Thailand over the Tsunami disaster. In their visit to the region the leaders of the Nordic countries praised the Thai authorities and people for aiding their citizens caught up in the tragedy. Returning Swedes, Norwegians and Finns have brought home stories of the courage and kindness of their Thai hosts.
Across the stricken region where more than 160,000 people died, there are signs of recovery, of everyday life trying to reassert itself. In Phuket fishermen who were so wary of the sea in the aftermath of the tragedy are taking to the open waters again. In Indonesia, in the devastated city of Banda Aceh, schoolwork has resumed.
For many children there are no classrooms – their schools were swept away with so many buildings. For now they are being taught in the shelters and camps which may by their homes for some time.
